Una Mirada Más...Botero, is a recollection of the life and work of the Master starting from his birth in the city of Medellin, the history of his family and the sample of the places that gave way and participated in the various works that the Master had, leading him to become one of the most important living artists of our country.

Botero is considered by critics as the world´s most prestigious living artist, and is undoubtedly one of the figures in the painting and sculpture of all time. To Botero, sensuality is derived in exaltation of form.

PLACES TO VISIT

Barrio Boston: It was founded as a distric in 1908, before it was a vast land that beolonged to Mr. Vicente Benedicto Villa. The Barrio Boston was were his family was established and Master Fernando Botero  was late born on april 19, 1932, there is the church were he was baptized at Our lady of sufragio. This Barrio Boston is perhapsthe place that most resembles Medellin of that time.

It was in this Barrio Boston were the Master experienced religious manifestations which then marked his work. 

 

Palacio de Bellas Artes: It was founded in 1910 by Sociedad de Mejoras Públicas de Medellín as education institute devoted to the visual arts and music. Declared National Monument and Historic Cultural Heritage of Medellin, it is one of the most preserved building of Avenida la Playa, near the Barrio Boston. In this place for the first time Fernando Botero present his watercolor NIÑO MUERTO and ALCOHOL for the exhibition of Antioquia painters.

 

La Avenida La Playa: This avenue has been a very impotant in Medellin history, since its foundation, under it, Santa Elena stream runs once visible and uncovered. Currently, in this wooded avenue you can observe bust of some important people in the history of Antioquia. 

 

Parque San Antonio: Located in the center of the city, on the oriental Avenue. It is one of the major popular meeting places of the city, you can find sculptures of TORSO MASCULINO, LA VENUS DURMIENTE and PÁJARO.

 

Salón Málaga: Café considered " the last  refuge of the old Guayaquil", founded in 1957, You can see something of the intellectual bohemia lived by Botero in the Medellin he knew. Tangos, Pasillos, Boleros and pasodobles; the decoration of the walls, old photos, jukeboxes and collectibles of this place,are a kind of time machine in the middle of the living and bustling trade center of the city.

 

Parque de Berrío: Built in 1680, it is one of the most traditional places of the city. When Medellin was still a village, it served as market square and stage of public and political events. In one of its sides in the bank of the República we can find wath is perhaps the most popular  TORSO FEMENINO sculpture of the Master, popularly known by the public as " La Gorda Botero".

 

Avenida Junín: Traditional Avenue in downtown Medellín that has not changel with time,  a place known for its commerce and traditional cafes that adorn life.

 

Museo de Antioquia: It is the most important museum in Medellin, and one of the most know of Colombia. It was the firts one founded in the Departamento de Antioquia, the second in the country. Its collections rest in the center of Medellín, facing Botero square, there you can find most of Master Botero's works.
